my film stuff

I've been writing for film since the middle of the '90s.

Without going to my bottom filing cabinet drawer to do an exact count, I'd say I've written about seven features and a few shorts, one of which, Mother of an Attitude (15 mins) was made with a budget of around $130 grand kindly supplied by the Australian Film Commission. It won a few awards on the Australian film festival circuit in 2003 including one for script at Flickerfest and Best Film at Byron Bay. I'll be uploading it to YouTube soon so come back again and have a watch.

Pretty much all of my features have had some kind of development money put into them; which is always nice but it hasn't got any of them made. I don't mind really - I've known from very early on that very few artists of any kind make it to a point where they can make some sort of living from art; I feel pretty lucky to have made it a paying part-time gig for the last twenty years or so.

Well. I don't mind that none of my features got made except for one. I think most writers have a baby, a special project that comes from the heart and reflects their soul, one that they would keep working on for nothing if only someone would pick it up and help them carry it forward. For me, it's The Phoenix.
